Elmhurst fields new side

GREAT START: Elmurst''s round one winners Jack Kaye, Linden Murray, Dale Moncrieff, Tom Kaye, Rob Koenen, Sam Kaye, Nick Johnston, Ben Harrison, Mick Peatt, Russell Preston, Tim Preston and Ian Murray

For the first time in more than ten years Elmhurst fielded a cricket team in the Grampians Cricket Association.
After a huge amount of organisation and commitment from people in and around Elmhurst, the side was ready to play its first game.
The day got off to a great start with a full side arriving on time and after winning the toss, Elmhurst elected to bat against a young Swifts Great Western opponent.
After a slow but steady start thanks to some tight bowling, things got a bit more difficult with the fall of two quick wickets. The next 15 overs were committed to steadying the ship and a strong partnership looked set to continue on for some time. However, just before drinks, Tom Kaye was caught down leg side off a spinner and drinks were called at 3/76.
The wickets continued to fall at regular intervals but thanks to some lower order hitting Elmhurst were all out for 127.
The bowling effort from Elmhurst was fantastic – wickets fell often and not many mistakes were made in the field. Most people got a bowl and most bowlers snared a wicket.
In the end Elmhurst ran out as winners by 54 runs and everyone involved should be proud of the round one win.
