Safety first in the CBD

ARCC by-laws officer with Logan and Rhiley

Ararat Rural City Council by-laws officer Greg McInnis joined Ararat youngsters Logan and Rhiley in promoting newly erected signs in the Barkly Street CBD, advising residents and visitors that the riding of bicycles, scooters, skateboards and roller blades on the footpath will not be permitted. ARCC has been concerned for a considerable time with the safety issues involved with riding on footpaths and in accordance with the Road Safety Act has acted swiftly to restrict footpath access. McMcKinnis said local laws officers would grant a month grace period starting from February 1 and warn offenders of the new rules, before infringement notices of $100 may be issued to repeat offenders.
