Best of the best in new Gift race

Winners of the six biggest races on the Australian professional athletics calendar will run for a winner-take-all purse in a new event at this year’s Stawell Gift carnival.
The 120-metre invitation Stawell Gold Mines Gift Winners’ Gift on Easter Monday will feature the winners of South Australia’s Bay Sheffield, Tasmania’s Burnie, NSW’s Queanbeyan, Victoria’s Maryborough and Queensland’s Kilcoy Gifts. They will join reigning Australia Post Stawell Gift champion Aaron Stubbs in the event.
The sprint champion who wins the event at Central Park will pocket $5000 of a total prize pool of $6250.
The six runners will start from their carnival handicaps in a race scheduled to follow the final of the Australia Post Stawell Gift.
The line-up: 2009 Bay Sheffield Gift – Russell Scott; 2010 Burnie Gift – Ollie Wurm; 2009 Queanbeyan Gift – Luke Storta; 2010 Maryborough Gift – Matt Carter; 2010 Kilcoy Gift – Nicholas Boylett; 2009 Australia Post Stawell Gift – Aaron Stubbs.

Reigning Stawell Gift winner Aaron Stubbs, 19, will attempt to win back-to-back titles at Central Park this Easter.
Stubbs has confirmed plans to again run in the historic foot race after etching his name into athletics folklore last year.
“I have run the Stawell Gift a few times now and love coming each year. Having won last year, I certainly wouldn’t miss the opportunity to defend the title,” Stubbs said.
“The Gift is a very famous and historic event so to come back as a defending champion definitely adds to the experience.
“As a handicapped event it is very difficult to rate your chances but I have been in good form so hopefully I’ll give it a good shake.”
The Australia Post Stawell Gift carnival is from April 2 to 5.
