Umpire groups consider merger

Football administrators hope a study into a merger between Wimmera and North Central football umpire associations will unveil ways of arresting a decline in regional umpire numbers.
The associations, with help from the VCFL and Wimmera Football League, have established a working party to assess the benefits of joining forces.
The merger proposal includes establishing a Wimmera-Mallee organisation to provide umpires for Wimmera, North Central, Mallee and Horsham District football leagues. The concept is also designed to increase administration efficiency and maximise best-practice activities in umpire coaching and training.
The working party will meet during the next few weeks to present a proposal to members of respective groups as soon as possible.
Working party members stressed that both umpire groups would continue to prepare for the approaching football season.
