The search is on for scarecrows ‘musica’. So gather your work, school or club peers and express yourself with scarecrow art.
That’s the message from the organisers of the annual Scarecrows at the Cellar Door, this year at Buangor’s Off The Beaten Track Wine and Art Gallery on the Western Highway.
This year’s competition theme is inspired by music, with prizes available for the most effective, appealing, sustainable and fun-loving scarecrow entries.
Scarecrow entries will be on display from April 14 to May 16 at Off the Beaten Track Wine and Art Gallery Cellar door. During this time visitors can vote for their favourite scarecrow for a viewers award.
Organisers will announce category winners at an annual Scarecrow Picnic from 11.30am to 3pm on May 2 as part of the Grampians Grape Escape – Food and Wine Festival.
The Scarecrows at the Cellar Door competition, running for more than a decade, has developed an annual following. Judges comment each year about the originality of scarecrows.
Organiser Carolyn Bertuchs said the competition was an opportunity for community groups, schools, and work places to share the unique experience of creating scarecrow art.
“Not only are the scarecrows a great tourist attraction for the region, stopping many fascinated motorists on the Western Highway – they are the result of some really wonderful community projects,” she said.
“We look forward to seeing a field of vibrant, weather-resistant and scary scarecrows to carry out their job of deflecting the birds from the Mount Cole Wineworks precious vines.”
People entering scarecrows in the competition must deliver their work with completed and signed entries to Off the Beaten Track Wine and Art Gallery, Buangor by April 14 between.
Doors are open between 10am and 3.30pm. Prizes include Grampians fine wine, produce hampers and an accommodation package.
