Wimmera Toy Library is up and running for 2010 and looking for new members.
Located inside Wimmera Regional Library in McLachlan Street, Horsham, the library is run by volunteers who will be on-hand to sign up new members each Saturday morning from 10am to 10.30am, except during school holidays.
Wimmera Toy Library president Lise Eagan Bales said the library offered members hundreds of toys for the price of just one or two new items.
“How quickly does the novelty of an expensive new toy wear-off for children?” Ms Eagan Bales said.
“The aim of the toy library is to provide toys, games and puzzles of an educational nature that provide pleasurable learning experiences and promote child-development in language, numeracy, social interaction, muscle development, imagination and creativity,” she said.
“Toys are carefully chosen to stand up to a lot of use by young children. Care is also taken to ensure that toys are clean, complete and in good working order.”
Wimmera Toy Library offers a range of educational toys suitable for children aged three months to six.
The library helps promote ‘good’ play by aiding in the development, education and imaginative capacity of children, forming an ability to share, take responsibility and co-operate.
Wimmera Toy Library is a member of Toy Libraries Victoria, a non-profit incorporated association.
Membership fees range from $40 to $50 with members asked to volunteer for at least one roster per term if possible.
