High praise for new Ararat street project

Member for Ripon Joe Helper joined community members and Ararat Rural City Council in celebrating the completion of the town’s High Street redevelopment.
Mr Helper said the State Government contributed $250,000 through the Local Area Access Program towards the project, which the council matched.
“The project involved the reconstruction of High Street between the Western Highway and Ingor Street and aimed to boost safety and access to Ararat’s CBD for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists,” Mr Helper said.
Works on the redevelopment included: Excavation of existing median in High Street; Angle parking in High Street; Construction of an off-road bicycle path; Bicycle facilities; New bus stop and shelter; New pedestrian path through the Deneys car park; Two pedestrian crossings over High Street and more.
Mr Helper said the transition to a more foot, bicycle and vehicle-friendly alternative in this area had been welcomed by residents.
