Council calls for help on hall development

Horsham municipal leaders have launched a campaign to gather as much community input as possible for the redevelopment of Horsham Town Hall and regional art gallery.
Horsham Rural City Council wants community representatives for a project control group and steering committee and has started advertising the positions.
The project control group will co-ordinate redevelopment and the steering committee will provide advice on community needs.
Chief executive Peter Brown said the council needed the community to ‘get more involved’.
“Over the last 18 months, we have received great input and representation from the community and business members on both the project control group and the steering committee,” he said.
“We now have a couple of vacancies, as well as additional community and business positions, on both groups. We are looking for enthusiastic people to bring their ideas to the table.”
The Horsham council has attracted considerable criticism during a drawn-out debate on Horsham Town Hall over a perceived lack of community involvement in the project.
“We want to make sure that community and business views are well represented as we start with a clean sheet and look at all options for the redevelopment. Making a commitment to participate in one these groups is a sure way to make sure your views are represented,” Mr Brown said.
“As our work progresses, there will be other opportunities for the community to contribute. Council is considering a community engagement plan for the redevelopment.”
Expressions of Interest for the project control group and steering committee are open. Nomination forms and background information is available on the council’s website or by contacting Danielle Hanson on 5382 9712 or email danielle.hanson@hrcc.vic.gov.au. Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, June 3.
