School bags

SIR,- It is becoming increasingly obvious that our school students are being a slave to their masters – their school bags.
Many of our members know of the difficulty our children and grandchildren have in carrying their bags on their backs, causing an awkward forward gait. There is now also the added burden of computers with their bag.
Their health, especially involving their posture and back, is alarming. If we don’t take steps to alleviate these circumstances now, the future does not bode well for our young ones.
Bags and cases with wheels are the immediate answer – however – peer pressure could be against this. If the Education Department or schools made it compulsory for each student to use bags with wheels, there might not be any problem.
Wheels can be purchased separately to attach to many bags and in many cases there would be no need to purchase new bags.
Please help us help our young ones.
