Millers Contractors have again swung their weight behind Horsham and District Racing Club’s blue-ribbon race meeting, the Horsham Cup.
The Horsham firm has developed a strong link with the annual spring attraction and has signed on as naming-rights sponsor.
The eight-race Horsham Cup meeting, on October 16, will launch the club’s racing season. The $40,000 Millers Civil Contractors and Plant Hire Horsham Cup will be the feature event of the day.
Horsham club vice-president Josh Mackay described confirmation of the sponsorship as ‘just fantastic’.
“Millers have had a long-standing association with the Horsham club, right from the days when they were heavily involved in renovating our track. It’s fantastic to have them on board for the season,” he said.
“This type of sponsorship means everything and is a great coup for the club. It really helps us, particularly when we’re working to re-establish ourselves. We can’t thank them enough.”
Mr Mackay said cup organisers expected this year’s crowd to swell beyond 3000, particularly if the weather was fine.
He added that club leaders were determined to cement the Cup and the pre-Christmas Santa Race Day as major events on the Horsham district community calendar.
“Preparations are in full swing. There is going to be a lot of kids’ activities and all sorts of dining and entertainment attractions,” he said.
“After all the rain we’ve had, the racecourse reservoir is near full. The track also hasn’t been raced on since May last year so it will be in perfect condition come October 16.
“We’d love to get more than 3000 through the gate and all going well there’s no reason why we can’t reach that figure. I expect the cup to be bigger and better than ever.”
