A unique Ararat manufacturing firm based on the inventive and marketing skills of two brothers will  literally ‘direct traffic’ during the London Olympic Games.
Bartco, a business that brothers Troy and Trevor Wollard built from scratch in 2004, has won a landmark contract valued at almost $2-million to help London cope with the large and diverse traffic the Games will create.
Traffic authority Transport For London has engaged the firm to provide a security and directional advice system for motorists about road conditions during the Olympics. The system will also help manage a special Olympic Route Network.
Bartco, which has grown to become a leading Australian manufacturer of electronic traffic-management systems, is providing almost 200 portable electronic road signs developed and manufactured in Ararat as part of the project.
Bartco has a manufacturing plant in Ararat and a head office in Melbourne and will light the way for motorists with its Variable Message Signs or VMS. The web-based VMS programming and online management system features ‘superior’ colour-display technology.
A key element of the system is that a customer can login and manage all their signs at once through Bartco’s Web Studio technology—enabling live communication with a single VMS or many VMS.
Trevor Wollard said Transport For London selected the Bartco product because of its versatility and advanced features.
“It can be used to manage the Olympic Route Network as required and act as a direction aid, promotional tool or assist with providing security messages to motorists if needed,” he said.
