Seven vacancies on tourism group

Horsham Rural City Council has called for applicants for seven vacancies on its Tourism Advisory Committee.
The group is a statutory committee and advises the council on ways to promote retail, commerce, tourism, art and cultural enterprises in the municipality.
Its main objective is to increase visitor awareness of the region as a place to visit and its events and festivals.
Council tourism and events manager Chris McClure said Horsham had experienced tourism growth during the past five years.
“In 2007, Horsham had 325,000 visitors who stayed 349,000 nights and spent $49-million in the municipality,” he said.
“Our research shows this figure has grown significantly over the past five years, with more than $60-million in tourism dollars spent in the municipality each year.”
Committee appointments are for two years. Application details are available on or by calling 5382 9706 or 5382 9702.
