Waacks Bakery is one of the first corporate teams to sign up for the ACE Radio Wimmera Grampians Heart Challenge – Run for Russ fundraising event on August 5 in Stawell.
The team of four will compete in the five-kilometre run in the inaugural event, which aims to raise money to produce Wimmera household heart-health awareness kits.
Event organiser Jackie Healy said the event would also feature two other team events covering five and 10-kilometre distances, for ‘community and sporting clubs’ and ‘friends and families’.
“The event is open to any individual, but the team aspect is always a great way to motivate those who’d rather take part in fun runs with their mates,” Ms Healy said.
“Plus, each team will be up for some great category prizes.”
Honour
Ms Healy said about 50 individuals had already registered for Run for Russ, which will also honour her father Russell Peacock who died at 46 from an unexpected heart attack.
“We’re rapt to hear that lots of people are taking up the challenge to improve their fitness for the event, which in turn, can benefit their heart health,” she said.
Ms Healy added that all participants would be encouraged to wear the event theme colour of red on the day.
“We’ve also had some great t-shirts made up for the day and participants can buy one for just $10 if they register before July 27.”
The run-walk will start and finish at Cato Lake in Stawell. Refreshments will be on site.
