Werner eyes NZ
Dimboola hammer thrower Emma Werner, 19, will set her sights on competing in New Zealand Open National Championships next year after throwing a personal best at Oceania Games in Cairns.
Werner, pictured, came fourth at last week’s international meet, throwing 34.84 metres and finishing ahead of a line-up of athletes from various countries.
University of Ballarat WestVic Academy of Sport executive officer Rob Ward said Werner’s result set up the physical education student for a bright future in the sport.
“This stellar result has whet Emma’s appetite for international competition and put her high in contention for next year’s team which will travel to Tahiti for the Games,” he said.
