Ararat shift gives business energy

A decision to shift from Melbourne to Ararat has proven a winner for Gerald Hurkens’ family business Overlanda Caravans.
Business partner Nicole Hurkens said the firm, which specialises in caravan manufacturing, modification, repairs and accessories, was enjoying growth since making the shift in January this year.
“It has led to a considerable cost savings for the business and as the only business providing this type of service in Ararat district we’ve been busy,” she said.
Family association
The Hurkens used a strong family association with Ararat to establish the Alfred Street business which had operated in Melbourne since the 1970s.
“The move has been very positive,” Ms Hurkens said.
“The locals have been very welcoming. A lot of people simply walk off the street with inquiries about caravans. General repairs, caravan servicing and insurance claim repair work have been very popular.”
