Christmas finish for streetscape project

Project leaders expect streetscape work to improve amenity and pedestrian safety along Barkly Street in Ararat to be finished by Christmas.
Ararat Rural City Council design and project management coordinator Alison Tonkin said the $220,000 project between Ingor and Ligar streets would ‘significantly’ improve safety for pedestrians and also beautify the area.
“Work includes the planting of ornamental pear trees, a new asphalt footpath, bluestone paving and garden beds, which will greatly improve the amenity of the area,” she said.
“It will also include a kerb extension including a new pedestrian crossing point at the Ingor Street end, recycling bins and extra seating including under the large cedar tree at the court house.”
