Council explores ‘fly-in, fly-out’ options

Northern Grampians Shire Council has broadened its search for opportunities in establishing Stawell as a ‘fly-in-fly-out’ or FIFO work base to include links to Adelaide and Tasmania.
The council is seeking expressions of interest from former Stawell Gold Mine employees or anyone else commuting between Stawell and SA or Tasmania for work.
Mayor Cr Wayne Rice said preliminary investigations had revealed many people in the municipality were already flying or driving to mines throughout Australia.
“Plans to establish a fly-in-fly-out base in Stawell are progressing well. We have received more than 70 inquiries from people regarding employment opportunities in NSW mines,” he said.
“We are now extending our focus to individuals who might be flying from Adelaide to other destinations including Prominent Hill in SA.
