A unique international business with headquarters in the Wimmera has been playing a critical role in helping AFL club Essendon prepare for next season.
Venture Events, Expeditions and Adventures, based at Murtoa and Kyoto in Japan and owned by Wimmera identity Aaron Davis has put 10 of the Bombers’ midfielders and young-leader group through its paces at a camp in America.
Venture has a worldwide network providing wilderness-based leadership and adventure programs to a growing international clientele and was responsible for providing the Essendon players with activities at Boulder, Colorado.
Aaron Davis said a series of challenging activities took the players, a club control group testing the benefits of altitude training, out of their comfort zones.
“International travel is a great way for professional sports clubs to develop players in indirect ways,” he said.
“We provide the team-building and leadership development activities for the group and work it around the skills, running, weights and recovery programs they are completing.”
The business Mr Davis runs with his wife and director Sarah Crocker is a quiet-achieving Wimmera firm combining the quality of life on offer in the region with international opportunity through the internet.
Mr Davis returned to Murtoa two and a half years ago with his family from Tokyo, armed with a desire to capitalise on Australian opportunities and home-town family benefits while maintaining a vibrant international business.
He won recognition as a talented sportsman growing up in the Wimmera before pursuing a career in wilderness adventure programs in south-east Asia.
