Recycling programs to return

Axis Worx and Grampians Regional Waste Management Group have joined forces to relaunch ‘Blinky Bulb’ and ‘Batteryback’ recycling programs across the region.
People in Horsham and Ararat and Yarriambiack and Northern Grampians shires will be able to drop off their used CFL globes and tubes and old household batteries at locations across the municipalities.
Waste management group education officer La Vergne Lehmann said the partnership represented a streamlining of programs.
“They have been around for a few years now and by working with Axis Worx we have been able to streamline them to ensure that people get a consistent message. They will also have a regular pick-up service in each of the council areas that we operate in,” she said.
“Keeping batteries and CFL globes and tubes out of landfill is important because they all contain hazardous chemicals that could ultimately contaminate soil.
