Surplus a highlight for Stawell health group

Attendees at Stawell Regional Health’s annual meeting heard how the organisation achieved a $786,000 surplus in the 2012-2013 financial year.

About 100 people at the meeting also heard that the surplus was similar to the previous year.

Incoming board chairman Howard Cooper reflected on the board’s decision to buy Stawell Medical Centre late last year to strengthen long-term service delivery to the community.

Mr Cooper said the hospital and government had invested $4.5-million into a capital works program in the last financial year – the biggest in 10 years.

The program included a Community Rehabilitation and Oncology Centre and student accommodation. Group officials expect both to open before the New Year.

Primary Care manager Liz McCourt and occupational Therapist Leanne Jackson made presentations about benefits of the centre.

Mr Cooper also reported that nursing student numbers had increased by 50 percent during the past year and congratulated Macpherson Smith Nursing Home on passing accreditation with ‘flying colors’.
