Horsham anglers urged to enter

Organisers of The Weekly Advertiser Horsham Fishing Contest on Sunday week have urged Horsham district people to ‘make the effort’ and enter the big charity fund-raiser.

Spokesman Kevin Dellar said chances of getting close to a ‘magical’ 3000-entry figure would come down to the Horsham response.

He said the flow entries from outside the region for the iconic Labour Day weekend event were on par with last year but the Horsham entry was again lagging.

“We encourage locals to support this wonderful family event to make sure they have a chance to cash in on the great prizes on offer,” he said.

“Businesses have come strongly on board so we need the locals in general to be involved.”

Last year’s contest, on the banks of the Wimmera between Riverside and Horsham Weir, attracted 2600 entries. Officials had expected 2800, the number of entries the previous year, before extreme hot days leading up to the contest.
