Numbers up for country festival

SHOW STOPPER: Singer Sandie Dodd entertained the crowd at the Horsham Country Music Festival at the Soundshell on Saturday. A 15 percent increase in crowd numbers pleased organisers.

Volunteers are already preparing for next year’s Horsham Country Music Festival after recording a 15 percent increase in patronage.

Horsham Country Music Association spokesman Lyall Wheaton said attractions at the seventh annual festival last weekend in Horsham attracted record crowds.

He said a crowd of 800 attended the ACE Radio Country Music Spectacular at Sawyer Park on Saturday with Sydney cruise-ship entertainer Johanna Hemara the star attraction.

“She is one of the best yodellers in Australia and didn’t disappoint, “ Mr Wheaton said.

“Other new artists at this year’s festival, Sandie Dodd, Don Costa, Sandra Humphries, Andrew D’Rasario and Col Perkins also impressed.

“The weather throughout the festival was good except for Friday night when it was cold.”
