Cancer treatment help for Ararat teacher

FOR A GOOD CAUSE: Artist John Eagle with some of the ceramic pots that will be auctioned in Ararat to raise money for the cancer treatment of Marian College drama teacher Tess Tonks.

Ararat’s Marian College will auction 50 ceramic pots by artist John Eagle to raise money for the cancer treatment of drama teacher Tess Tonks.

Ms Tonk is battling her second round of breast cancer in two years.

VCAL teacher Simone Conroy said Ms Tonks was a much-loved drama teacher and her positive attitude and strength was inspirational.

“She has made a large contribution to the local Ararat performing arts scene and inspired many students over the years,” Ms Conroy said.

The pots are part of a new exhibition at Marian College’s ‘Gallery 304’ window and will be auctioned at the college’s Applied Learning Centre from 4pm to 6pm Monday.

“The auction is a great opportunity if you are interested in collecting art and want to buy a great investment piece,” Ms Conroy said.

She said the pots normally sold for about $300 to $400 in galleries.

“Due to Mr Eagle’s generosity, he is placing capped bidding at $200 to allow people in the community that wouldn’t normally be able to afford his work an opportunity to be able to purchase. The minimum bid for each pot is $50,” she said.
