Nhill childcare plans enter new era

Planning for a new $2-million children’s centre in Nhill is set to enter a more detailed stage after key consultation meetings with industry professionals and the community.

Hindmarsh Shire Council will now proceed with a detailed analysis of site options for Nhill Integrated Early Years Centre and collate the feedback into a revised design.

The council hopes to put a revised conceptual plan out for another round of community feedback in January before putting the project’s architectural plans to tender. It also hopes to finalise funding arrangements for the project in January.

The new centre will be alongside Nhill P-12 College and provide 55 kindergarten places as well as day-care, maternal, child-health and early-intervention services, playgroups and a toy library. It won key funding with confirmation of an $800,000 State Government grant earlier this year.

Council has applied for a further $500,000 from the Federal Government, will contribute $600,000 over two years and is calling for people to join a committee to raise the final $100,000 to complete the project. People interested in joining the committee can contact Anne Champness on or visit the council’s website.
