Councillor finds four-legged friend at pound

PERFECT MATCH: Ararat Rural City Council local laws officer Ricky Bowen and Cr Glenda McLean, with her new dog Mimi.

A success story at Ararat Rural City Council’s pound has led to Cr Glenda McLean adopting the newest four-legged member to her family.

What started as a short conversation at the council’s customer service counter about council staff explaining their role in assisting the animal rescue efforts turned into a successful adoption.

Cr Mclean visited the pound to see the improvements made for the temporary housing of surrendered and rescued dogs and cats.

“Credit and congratulations go to supervisors and staff who have worked hard to improve the facilities over the past two years,” Cr McLean said.

Cr McLean had been looking for a companion dog and when she met a sad, unkempt Pomeranian-Chihuahua cross it was a perfect match.

The previous owner surrendered Milly in October 2014 because they had too many dogs. She was only in the pound for three days before Cr McLean snapped her up.

Three months later, Mimi, formally known as Milly, is a beautiful, happy and feisty girl, who has settled into Cr McLean’s household.

“Mimi is excellent company for the original resident dog and demonstrating how positively things can work out for a rescue dog.” Cr McLean said.
