Government money to assist councils

Wimmera councils will receive more than $31 million from the Federal Government for roads and general infrastructure upgrade in 2014-15.

The latest government figures show that Northern Grampians Shire Council will be the biggest winners – receiving a total of $6,560,687 in financial assistance grants.

Northern Grampians will receive $3,918,950 for general purpose and $2,641,737 for roads.

Other councils:

Horsham: Total $5,692,951 – general purpose $3,653,931; roads $2,039,020.

Ararat: Total $5,336,810 – general purpose $3,178,623; roads $2,158,187.

West Wimmera: Total $4,978,018 – general purpose $2,742,167; roads $2,235,851.

Yarriambiack: Total $4,807,946 – general purpose $2,907,726; roads $1,900,220.

Hindmarsh: Total $4,089,206 – general purpose $2,553,580; roads $155,626.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the Financial Assistant Grant program would provide $2.3 billion in 2014-15 to local governments across Australia.
