Kealy lobbies for law change

Member for Lowan Emma Kealy has spoken in State Parliament about her support for removing a 12-year limitation for people raising claims about child abuse.

Ms Kealy said Amending the Limitation of Actions Act 1958 would ensure victims of child abuse had an opportunity to pursue legal action against a perpetrator if more than 12 years had lapsed.

“This will give victims an opportunity to gain closure which they might not have otherwise been able to access,” she said.

She said the current 12-year limitation was a barrier for some people to who were considering legal action in relation to past child abuse.
