Umpire chalks up 1000 games

Long-time Wimmera football umpire Maurice Rudolph will reach an incredible milestone on Saturday when he officiates in his 1000th official match.

Mr Rudolph, who first picked up a whistle for the often thankless job in 1979, will reach his milestone in a Horsham District League senior match between Pimpinio and Taylors Lake at Pimpinio.

He has been a member of Wimmera Football Umpires Association for 37 seasons and officiated at 70 different grounds and in Wimmera, Horsham District, Mallee, Kowree-Naracoorte-Tatiara, Mininera and other leagues that no longer exist.
