Police are investigating the circumstances of a fatal crash at Tarranyurk, north of Dimboola, this afternoon.

A woman in her 70s, a front-seat passenger in the car, died at the scene.

The car was travelling north along the Dimboola-Rainbow Road about 3.45pm.

Police believe the driver, a man in his 70s, lost control of the car, which left the road and crashed into a tree.

The driver suffered serious injuries.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the man was trapped in the car for more than an hour.

She said paramedics took him to Wimmera Base Hospital, Horsham, in a serious condition.

“It is expected he will be flown to a Melbourne hospital later tonight,” she said.

A police investigation is ongoing.
