History-making trifecta in Stawell and Ararat cross country race

The Stawell and Ararat Cross Country season ended on an historic note at Moyston with Julie Hertz, Sue Blizzard and Rhonda Rice achieving the first female trifecta for at least 32 years.
The 32 years also equates to about 550 races.
Club statisticians worked at the weekend to determine the last all-female whitewash – they were assured it had happened ‘several times before’ in the club’s 47 years – but time constraints prevented research prior to 1983. The nearest to last trifecta was in 2006 in which Leonie Cowey, Laura Reynolds and Gaynor Radovic finished in the first four but were split by perennial place-getter Peter Gibson.
It was a race so long ago that it had not only slipped the memory of club veterans but all three female runners have since left the club.
