Horsham Lawn Tennis Club has launched a Wimmera junior development program in an effort to stimulate the game in the region.
The club has hired professional coach, Drung South pennant player Lachie King, to spearhead the program which will be open to young players from across the Wimmera.
It started the program a few weeks ago but will use the end of the school-holiday period to generate momentum and build membership.
Program spokesman and lawn club committee member Shane McGrath said the concept was about increasing participation in tennis by helping children develop their games.
“Tennis is a technical sport and you really need to learn the basics to enjoy it and get the most from participation,” he said.
“While participation is critical, the better player you become, the more interesting the game becomes. The program is open to any Wimmera juniors, boys or girls, who want to develop their games. We won’t put a limit on how many players are involved. We’re happy to cater for as many kids as we can to provide them with some professional coaching. The more the better”.
