A battle will unfold on the edge of Grampians Cricket Association’s A Grade top four at the weekend with critical games scheduled at Tatyoon and Ararat’s Gordon Street Reserve.
The competition is critically poised with Youth Club third behind Swifts-Great Western and Buangor and Tatyoon sitting fourth marginally ahead of St Andrews.
Tatyoon has an opportunity to open an important gap between the top and the also-rans if it can beat seventh-placed Halls Gap and depending on the result between St Andrews and Aradale.
Last week Tatyoon had a bye while Halls Gap won a low-scoring affair against Chalambar. With batsmen from both camps struggling to score, opener Damon Folkes’ 40 proved critical as his team limped to 96.
Brett Crone was the destroyer for Chalambar, capturing 5-15, but then Chalambar ran into a Halls Gap attack led by Sean Mantell, 4-21, and was subsequently all out for 67.
Halls Gap need more runs this week and again look for big games from Gary Martin, Shane Spriggs and Clinton Slorach.
St Andrews produced a big win against Youth Club last week and will hope to continue its form against Aradale.
Jake Robinson, 54 and 3-16, had a big game for the winners, combining with Adam Haslett and Luke Robinson with the bat as his team made 7-168 before bowling the Clubbers out for 140.
