Horsham Hornets coach Cam Bruce hopes having a full team at his disposal will help his side become the first to defeat Country Basketball League ladder-leader Mt Gambier this season.
The Hornets were undermanned when they went down to the Lakers by 41 points in round four, and hope the return of a host of experienced players will turn the tables.
Star Brett Goodgame, who averages 22 points a game, makes his way back into the side, along with Tim Wade, Michael O’Callaghan and Damien Kilpatrick.
They will look to build on Horsham’s strong win against Timboon on Saturday night.
The Taipans were competitive in the first half but fell away in the second, with the Hornets proving too strong across the board.
Bruce put the win down to a good team effort.
“We had eight players and all contributed to the scoreboard,” he said.
“Three players – Tim Pickert, Damien Skurrie and Matt Lovel – finished with 20 points or more. If we could get that contribution every week I’d be happy.”
Hornets young gun Matt Lloyd dropped three three-pointers.
Timboon was best served by Jarryd Watene, who collected a game-high 24 points.
Bruce is expecting a difficult encounter against the Lakers.
“They have Simon Berkefeld, who has been one of the league’s leading scorers for the past four or five years, but they are all good players,” he said.
“They have been playing together for a long time, so they know each other’s playing styles inside-out. It’s going to be tough.”
