Organisers of a Guinness World Record attempt in Horsham for the highest number of people dancing ‘The Nutbush’ are waiting for an official approval from the London-based company.
Wimmera residents flocked to Horsham City Oval on Sunday, with 256 people aged between six and 90 dancing to Tina Turner’s hit song for more than five minutes and 15 seconds.
Organiser and Horsham councillor Mark Radford congratulated everyone who participated.
“They are all champions,” he said.
“Now we will submit our evidence to Guinness World Records in London for their consideration.”
Cr Radford said organisers would keep their fingers crossed for a good result.
“It’s important to remember we haven’t set the record yet,” he said.
“We have to send all our video footage and photographs across to them.
“It’s a very strict process. Although other groups have attempted the record before, when we contacted Guinness they said there was no record. They gave us a target of 250 people.
“Regardless of what happens, though, we all had a good time. We had men and women, boys and girls of all ages dancing, and it’s something they’ll be able to remember.”
In the lead-up to the event at city oval, organisers hosted public dance classes and ‘flash mobs’.
Cr Radford thanked those people who helped bring the event to fruition.
“A volunteer workforce of more than 50 people on the day worked to bring the event together,” he said.
The world record attempt was a fundraiser for the Horsham Town Hall redevelopment.
