Community-minded citizens recognised with awards

Northern Grampians Shire councillor and community representative Kevin Erwin is Stawell’s Citizen of the Year.
Cr Erwin was recognised at an Australia Day ceremony in Stawell last night.
He has served four terms as mayor of the shire, chaired Stawell’s Lights and Sirens Ball committee, was president of Stawell Rotary Club, a member of GWMWater’s community consultative committee. He is chairman of Wimmera Development Association and the Western Highway Action Committee.
Northern Grampians Youth Action Council member and former chairwoman Lauren Dempsey is Stawell’s Young Citizen of the Year.
Miss Dempsey was recognised for her significant contribution to the community, in particular her participation in the Black Dog Institute’s Bhutan Trek to Happiness.
Greta Carey won the Local Hero award after raising $23,633 for the Leukemia Foundation by shaving off all 85 centimetres of her hair for the World’s Greatest Shave.
