Mininera celebrates hard-fought interleague win

Mininera and District Football League’s finest put on a good display to enjoy a come-from-behind win over South West District Football League in the AFL Victoria Community Championships at the weekend.
In fairly windy conditions, South West District got an early start booting 3.4 to Mininera’s one point.
However, downwind proved to be the scoring end of the ground and in the second quarter, Mininera booted 6.5 to South West’s two points.
This set up a competitive second half with both teams sharing the lead, but Will McGregor’s three goals in the final stages of the game saw Mininera put the with out of South West’s reach.
Trent Harman from Hawkesdale-Macarthur was awarded the medal for best on ground for the day.
He received good back-up from team-mate Lachlan Glare, who booted five goals – most of them coming in the second quarter to give Mininera a much-needed lead going into half-time. There was just as much hard work at the other end of the ground with Lismore-Derrinallum’s Gary Knights and Tatyoon’s Arthur Armstrong also named in the best.
Round seven
For all players this week it’s back to business as we continue on with round seven.
Wickliffe-Lake Bolac remains undefeated and outright top of the ladder.
