All Wimmera Hockey Association games on Saturday will be at Yanac, providing finals aspirants a chance to play on the reserve for the last time before grand finals in early September.
The feature game between Dimboola Burras and Horsham Hurricanes is effectively an ‘elimination’ game, with a win to the Burras enough to confirm their place in the finals and a win for the Hurricanes likely to keep their finals dream alive.
Yanac Tigers and Warrack Hoops will also clash, and always put on entertaining games. Sitting first and second on the ladder respectively, the only thing on the line is physiological advantage.
In the women’s competition there will be another ‘elimination’ when fourth-placed Nhill Thunderbirds meet fifth-placed Kaniva.
A win for the Thunderbirds will almost assure them the last place in the finals, with Kaniva facing a daunting task of needing to defeat ladder-leading Yanac in the last round.
If Kaniva wins it will slip into the four, at the expense of the Thunderbirds.
The clash between Dimboola Roos and Horsham Jets could also open the door for a significant ladder change.
A Jets victory will guarantee them second place, and a second chance in the finals, while a Roos win will move them to within two points of Jets.
In under-16s, a Dimboola Kangaroos match against Horsham Bombers is shaping as the most significant match of the round. If Yanac Warriors go down to Warrack Revengers, a win for the Kangaroos will move them into fourth place. But if the Bombers can win, they would move to the same points as the Warriors.
