Ararat dog-leash laws

Ararat Rural City Council local laws team has reminded the community of a need to keep dogs on a lead in built-up areas.

Local laws team leader Lyndon Turner said the local law was in place to ensure public safety and so everyone could exercise their dog in safety.

“The reminder is timely given some recent incidents where dogs off the leash have rushed at or attacked other dogs that were being walked on a leash by their owners,” he said.

The areas that are designated dog-off-leash areas in the Ararat municipality are: Warrawee Park, Elizabeth Park, King Street where signed, Centenary Park; Kokoda Park and Green Hill Lake, where signed.

“We ask that responsible dog owners have their dogs leashed when exercising their animals in a built-up area,” Mr Turner said. “This improves public safety and allows everyone to exercise in relative safety.”
