Stawell’s O’Sullivans win St Arnaud Cup with Golden Oldies

Stawell trainers Terry and Karina O’Sullivan added the 2000-metre 2016 St Arnaud Cup to their trophy cabinet, courtesy of Golden Oldies.
The five-year-old lined up in the $20,000 Wimmera feature, with stable apprentice Jessica Eaton in the saddle.
Golden Oldies was let roll straight to the lead by Eaton, freewheeling out in front.
The Soldier’s Tale gelding had a mid-race stoush with Caves, and the pair soon burst away from the rest of the field.
When balanced for the run home, Golden Oldies beat off Caves and dashed away to score by four-and-a-half lengths.
The win was Golden Oldies’ first since June 2015 at Flemington, after an injury setback that sidelined the horse for 12 months.
Focus flies
Horsham trainer Paul Preusker continued his good run of form at St Arnaud with restricted class sprinter, Lotza Focus.
The son of Strategic Maneuver took his place in a benchmark 64 1100-metre sprint, with Jake Duffy riding.
Despite being forced to race wide for most of the race, Lotza Focus still travelled strongly for Duffy.
Once in the straight, the four-year-old gelding dashed clear, to score by a half-length.
Lotza Focus has built a handy record of six starts, for two wins and one second, for earnings of $21,865.
