Darryl Dodson wins at Morphettville

BEFORE THE BARRIER
By JOSH MACKAY
Telopea Downs trainer Darryl Dodson continued his good form, courtesy of a strong win from Duquessa at Morphettville on Saturday.
The five-year-old mare lined up in handicap over 2500 metres, with Eran Boyd in the saddle.
A patient display from Boyd saw Duquessa settle back at the tail of the field. The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade made a late move before the home turn, gradually making up ground.
Once in the straight, Duquessa came with a wet sail, and under hard riding, wacked away to a three-quarter-length win. Duquessa has found a purple patch of form since joining the Dodson yard, recording three wins from a handfull of starts for her new trainer.
Fiona shines at Swan Hill
Stawell trainer Doug Whitworth is another whose horses have been performing well of late.
The Whitworth stable travelled to Swan Hill on Sunday with restricted class mare Fiona Crystal.
The Crystal Finale five-year-old took her place in the Noel Watson Real Estate Handicap over 2100 metres. Leading jockey Dean Yendall was aboard for the staying test.
Yendall box seated on Fiona Crystal, giving her a beautiful run in transit.
Before the home turn, Fiona Crystal angled out into clear galloping room, letting down strongly.
Yendall got the best out of his mount over the concluding stages to record a long-neck win.
Fiona Crystal made it a winning treble for Yendall, who previously won aboard Silence A Crown and Canny Rocket for Darren Weir.
