Wimmera volleyballers prepared for National Schools Cup

The preparations are done and dusted and all that awaits the players is a week of volleyball they will never forget.
The annual National Schools Cup volleyball tournament will be contested across three major venues in Melbourne next week.
Wimmera teams have a very good record at the event, with teams representing Horsham College, Murtoa College and Horsham’s St Brigid’s College all winning medals in recent years.
Three Wimmera teams will participate in this year’s event.
St Brigid’s College’s under-15 boys will play their first schools cup, coming in at division three level, while for the 14th year in a row, Horsham College will send under-16 boys and girls teams, also in division three.
The St Brigid’s boys will open their account with games against Toowoomba Grammar and Rossmoyne on Monday.
Solid training
While they might have performed below expectations at last week’s School Sport Victoria finals, they will welcome the competition on the back of some solid training and a mountain of match play.
The yardstick is to get between 20 and 25 games under their belts in term four in the lead-up to the nationals, and that is what we have been able to get into these boys.
This gives them the solid base they need to get their systems working well and everyone gets to know their roles.
They have won 18 of 21 games in that time so you can’t really fault their preparation.
The Horsham College teams have players heading to the event for the first time and they are an enthusiastic group who will give their all.
The under-16 boys start with Greenwood and Adelaide on Monday while the girls have a tough first-up assignment against Loxton, which always sends competitive teams to this event.
The event continues to grow, with more than 500 teams from more than 140 schools competing across 38 divisions in 2016.
