Horsham Angling Club members will head north on March 18 and 19 to test the waters of the Murray River.
Registration will be on March 15 with weigh-in and presentation at Robinvale lock.
But before that, the club will have its next points run on Sunday at Lake Bellfield near Halls Gap.
The Bellfield contest is a bank event with weigh-in at 2.15pm at the lake’s picnic area.
The Horsham club is one of many that have been busy making the most of fantastic fishing conditions.
A snap of cold weather upset the plans of some but the onset of warm and mild conditions promises plenty for lakes and waterways across the region.
There are fishing choices everywhere – from the productive lakes of the south-east to the wetlands of the west Wimmera and recreation lakes dotted throughout the Wimmera and Mallee.
Let’s not forget the Wimmera River. The Horsham club had its latest catfish competition on the river at the weekend with the open prize going to Kelvin Robinson with a catfish weighing 899 grams.
Alastair Vanstan won the senior section with a 752-gram fish from Dom Ellis, 687g, Kevin Budde, 597g and Adam Hinch, 585g.
Gage Wright won a junior section with a 516g fish from Trent Shiells, 483g, and equal third were Curtis and Zephyr Vanstan, both with 438g catches.
Jayden Egan had the heaviest other native fish with a 1.409kg yellowbelly and Adam Hinch had the heaviest bag of carp in the adult section. Zac O’Brien won the award in the juniors.
The catfish competition was a great success with 43 adults and 21 juniors involved.
Anglers fished from the big water east of Horsham through to Dimboola, with most anglers catching fish. There were good numbers of catfish and yellowbelly and a few nice redfin.
