STRENGTH IN NUMBERS: Planet Feelgood’s Lisa Cosson leads a warm up at the 2017 Horsham Mother’s Day Classic at Sawyer Park on Sunday.

Horsham Mother’s Day Classic organisers are celebrating a successful 2017 event, with entry numbers significantly up on last year.
Committee member Jackie Exell said this year’s event at Sawyer Park attracted 503 registrations.
“Last year we had about 350 to 400 registrations, so they were really up this year. We were super happy,” she said.
“The weather, which is obviously out of our control, was perfect.
“We’re sure that encouraged people to hang around for a coffee and a chat.”
Lister House won back-to-back MIXX FM Workplace Warriors Shields for the highest number of registrations.
“Only three registrations separated them from Wimmera Uniting Care,” Ms Exell said.
“We had 14 teams registered this year, double last year’s number. We were thrilled.”
Ms Exell said guest speaker Stacey White shared her breast cancer story with participants.
“Her speech had quite a few people in tears. She is very inspiring,” she said.
Tom Wiggins won a $600 package from Mackay’s Leading Edge Jewellery, drawn randomly from online registrations, while Monica Anderson won a prize for being the highest individual fundraiser.
“She raised $363.40. As a committee, fundraising isn’t something we push because we just want everyone to register and show up,” Ms Exell said. “But Monica did a great job so we gave her a small prize on the day.”
Ms Exell encouraged people to provide feedback on the event by searching ‘Mothers Day Classic – Horsham, Victoria’ on Facebook and completing a survey.
“As a committee we do what we can but we rely on feedback to make each year bigger and better,” she said.
Ararat and Stawell also hosted Mother’s Day Classic events on Sunday.
All money raised goes to National Breast Cancer Foundation research.
