Kalkee Football Netball Club is calling on past players, supporters and families to be part of an inaugural Home to Roost event on June 24.
The event, during a Horsham District football league fixture, is designed to provide an opportunity where people can catch up with friends, former team-mates and supporters.
Kalkee, despite its humble origins on the plains north of Horsham, is historically one of Horsham district’s most successful clubs. The club’s history dates back to before Federation.
The Kees’ first official base was on a paddock owned by David Lawson.
The late Bill Ingleton, with strong ties to Kalkee, Pimpinio and Dimboola clubs, remembered Kalkee players changing in a garage and opposition players in a barn and using the farm dam to wash off the mud.
Kalkee event organiser Jo Martin said the Kees were creating a day where people were guaranteed to run into familiar faces, watch a game of country footy and share stories.
“There will also be 10 premierships to celebrate and a gourmet barbecue tea, so it will be a massive day at Kalkee recreation reserve,” she said.
“We hope to do it every year to encourage people from across the district and afar to return to Kalkee to catch up for one game every year.”
