Volleyball Horsham is appealing to females to become part of an all-women’s competition for its 2017 winter season.
Volleyball Horsham has obtained a Vichealth Active Club grant to establish a standalone female competition.
The grant will assist with the purchase of uniforms and help strengthen the competition by accrediting 20 female referees.
Volleyball Horsham president David Berry said the club had a proud record of accommodating female players in competitions.
“With this grant we can continue to build on the success rate we have had with giving female players quality competition and at the same time help girls get a better understanding of the rules, which will in turn help strengthen the overall standard of play,” he said.
“Volleyball Horsham has some wonderful female role models who all girls can look up to and learn from.
“We have players such as Kara Johnson, Ash Davidson, Erin Dorward, Delaney Wills and Emma Avery who have been long-time loyal supporters of our association.
“They have excelled domestically and at a representative level, both during their school days and post school.
“What we would like to do is give more girls, such as Chloe Brown, Eadie Garth-Lindsay, Tamikah Dockrill, Chloe Wilson, Laelah Robertson and their peers the same opportunity those girls received.
“We believe a stand-alone female competition will go a long way towards making those dreams come true.”
Mr Berry said the club had some very talented young girls already participating.
“We would love to hear from more girls who have played or might be interested in playing in a stand-alone female competition,” he said.
“Providing an alternative stand-alone competition will help retain more players and give those younger ones a better chance to develop their game.”
Girls interested in forming their own team or wanting to play in a team can call Mr Berry on 0487 824 599 with their expression of interest.
Entries are now being taken for the winter competition.
