A group of Wimmera shearers will donate a day’s earnings to a men’s health charity in honour of late Toolondo man Garry Hobbs.
Nurrabiel shearing contractor Jamie Tippet has organised a team of about 10 shearers and 10 shed hands to support his Movember fundraiser on Saturday.
“We’re aiming to shear about 300 sheep at David Sudholz’s property just outside Natimuk,” he said.
“We decided to do this because one of the guys who used to work for us gave the job away last year. He was always complaining about a bad back. It turned out he had cancer.
“He also had a great mo, so we thought this was a nice tribute. We all shaved at the start of the month and are growing moustaches for Movember.”
Mr Tippet said he hoped the fundraiser would raise at least $1500.
“We should make about $1500 in wages, but we’re hoping people will make donations on the day,” he said.
The Movember Foundation raises money for men’s health programs to decrease the number of men dying from prostate and testicular cancers and mental health issues. People can visit au.movember.com for more information or search Garry’s Goats to make a donation.
