Parade, carols to spread Christmas cheer in Stawell

Community group, school, business and organisation representatives will showcase their Christmas spirit in a parade down Stawell’s Main Street on December 15.
StawellBiz presents a Christmas parade each year before the action moves to Cato Park for carols by candlelight, hosted by Stawell Performing Arts Company Inc. StawellBiz’s Kayleen Urquhart encouraged the district community to attend the free festive events.
“The parade and carols offer an opportunity for us all to get together to celebrate Christmas and spread some Christmas cheer and spirit,” she said.
“The parade also offers a chance for organisations, groups and businesses to showcase themselves.
“There is a $200 cash prize for the best float.”
Ms Urquhart said people could email or message the What’s on in Stawell Facebook page to become involved in the parade. The parade starts at 6.30pm.
Carols by candlelight will start at 7pm and run until 9.30pm.
SPACi groups the ‘Young Ones’ and ‘Come and Sing’ will perform along with Stawell City Brass Band and choirs from St Patrick’s, Stawell and Stawell West primary schools.
SPACi president Tracey Erkelens encouraged people to sing along.
She said the community could join in a range of popular carols.
“Interspersed in the program we will also have different groups performing a variety of carols, from the well known to the more unusual,” she said. “It is going to be a great night. There will be a variety of regional vendors selling food and drinks.
“We will also be selling glow sticks and Christmas tattoos as a fundraiser for next years carols.”
SPACi is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organisation.
“We rely on sponsorship from local businesses to put on this event for the community,” Mrs Erkelens said.
