Wimmera Health Care Group has four new life governors.
Group management board chair Marie Aitken led presentations to long-time supporters David and Denise Leembruggen and former board members Ted McCabe and Mark Williams at an annual meeting in Horsham Town Hall.
Mrs Aitken welcomed 108 attendees at the meeting, which involved the release of a 2016-17 annual report and quality account.
The meeting also included presentations from guest speakers and a visual display of a future Wimmera Cancer Centre.
“We were fortunate to hear from Bill Ower, the chair of the Wimmera Hospice Care Trust. The trust is a major contributor to the Wimmera Cancer Centre as the centre will also have community-based palliative care services,” Mrs Aitken said.
“We thank Mr Ower for his presentation, which was very informative and highlighted the large number of families who use the service every year.”
Mrs Aitken also officially welcomed new chief executive Catherine Morley who has been in the role for nine weeks.
Ms Morley used the occasion to speak of her ambitions for the health service.
“The board has set the agenda of empowering and engaging team members to work together to improve our services, working with our partners across the region,” she said.
“I am looking forward to achieving that goal with the team and improving the health and wellbeing of our community.”
Ballarat Health Services clinical director of medical oncology Dr Stephen Brown was the other guest speaker.
His presentation considered the number of regional people Ballarat Health Services treated, its range of services and how it planned to offer more with the development of the Wimmera Cancer Centre.
