Horsham Pony Club member Anna Sudholz was awarded the Ann Buwalda Memorial Clubmanship and Sportsmanship award at the club’s last rally in December.
Each year the club honours and remembers the life of Ann Buwalda with the Ann Buwalda perpetual trophy.
Ann was a Horsham Pony Club member who tragically, along with her two horses, lost her life in an accident in 1978.
Ann exhibited what it means to be a good club person and a good horse person, something each and every member should aspire to be.
For this reason every year the club recognises those qualities through the awarding of a trophy in her honour to a rider who has competed at a state or zone level with pride, while demonstrating sportsmanship and clubmanship.
This year’s recipient Anna Sudholz attended her first state, interzone horse trials and has won showjumping at a zone level.
Anna is a pleasure to instruct and has always been observed to be supportive and encouraging of her fellow riders.
Other awards included:
• Angela and Malcom Carter Encouragement Award
– Paris Fiedler
Paris strives to achieve at each and every rally and event. When we develop a partnership with an animal we very quickly learn that things do not always go as we plan them, and although Paris has faced her challenges with her horse Tapu Height of Elegance, she always remains positive and has her sights firmly set on the goal of competing at a state level.
• Pony Club Victoria Award of Merit – Rachel Ball
The award of merit is the highest state award for service to a pony club by a member aged between 19 and 26 years. This award recognises the commitment of young members to their club on an administration or voluntary work capacity. Service means carrying out tasks that benefit the club, its members and perhaps the wider community.

A good year
Officials also took time to highlight the club’s successful year. Highlights included the efforts of three members competing in InterZone Horse Trials in May, two of which came home with a win, and two members qualifying for State Dressage Championships in December. The championships are in March.
Officials reflected on an amazing year as a club and thanked everyone who had supported them, including Horsham Sports and Community Club for its grant which enabled the club to buy some new safety equipment to keep riders safe, whether they are riding at a monthly rally or off competing.
