Wimmera teams will turn their attention to a Portland tournament at the weekend after tasting victory at the 2018 Bendigo Basketball Junior Classic.
Horsham Amateur Basketball Association’s under-16 boys won the division one title, defeating Ballarat Miners 40-29.
Horsham’s under-16 girls were runners-up for the division two title, going down to Bendigo Braves 2 by 12 points, 20-32.
Ararat Redbacks also impressed at the tournament, coming away with two division-two titles.
The under-16 boys scored a strong win over Bendigo Braves, triumphing 38-10, while the under-12 boys defeated Melton 30-22. Horsham basketball junior representative director Tony Sleep said the association was happy with its teams’ performances in Bendigo.
“It’s a really competitive tournament and we get to see sides from outside our region that we wouldn’t always see until state championships,” he said.
“Obviously we’re very pleased for both our under-16 boys and girls teams for their results in finals, but all of our teams did their best and from all reports learned a lot.”
